              Cebu Technological University

Cebu Technological University, is an educational institution located in Cebu City, Philippines. CTU is considered a center of excellence for technology education as it is ISO 9001:2008‑certified by the Anglo–Japanese–American registrars. The State University, previously named Cebu State College of Science and Technology was converted through Republic Act 9744 under the governance of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The satellite campuses include:
  • the College of Fisheries in Moalboal
  • the Agro-industrial and Forestry College in Argao
  • the Polytechnic College in Tuburan
  • the College of Fisheries in Daanbantayan
Also part of it are:
  • the Fishery and Industrial College in San Francisco, Camotes
  • the College of Industrial Technology in Danao
  • the College of Fisheries Technology in Carmen
  • the College of Agriculture in Barili (previously located in Sudlon and Lahug barangays of Cebu City)
  • the Experimental Station in Sibonga
  • the defunct Abellana College of Arts and Trades which was previously located in Mandaue

The Cebu Trade School, now the Cebu Technological University, began in 1911 as a Manual Arts department of the Cebu Normal School and later of the Cebu Provincial High School. In 1911 it become a separate entity offering intermediate trade curriculum in wood working. There were five teachers composing the teaching staff: two Americans and three Filipinos who taught in the fifth, sixth and seven grades. This group of Filipino and Americans teachers turned out its first batch of elementary graduates in 1912 equipped with the rudiments of vocational education.

During almost fifty years of existence, the Cebu School of Arts And Trade has occupied different places in the city. In 1909, when it was still a department of the Cebu Normal School it was housed in “Mga Anak Sa Lungsod” a building at the corner of D Jakosalem and Colon Streets. From there, it was moved to the grounds now occupied by the Abellana National Vocational School on Jones Avenue where a three-room building was built.
When Mr. Jose Sevilla was the principal of the school from 1918 to 1932, the present site of the school at Los Martires Street was acquired under Government Proclamation No.180 of August 29, 1928. Soon after the acquisition of the new school site, a building was constructed to house the administration offices and the various shops. Thirteen years after, in 1925, the intermediate classes were gradually dropped and in their place the secondary trade classes simultaneously organized. Besides, the regular wood working courses, building construction and iron working courses were added. The academic classes were held at Fort San Pedro, near the Cebu Post Office, now occupied by the Cebu City Zoo. Later a building which had been occupied by the Osmeña Waterwork system was made the Academic Building. The building burned down during the Second World War

After the liberation, the school reopened at the corner of Mango Avenue and General Echavez streets exactly on the present site of the Sacred Heart School on August 1, 1945. An old bodega because the building at Los Martires Street was occupied by a part of the United States Liberation Army. However, when the soldiers vacated the place, the Cebu School of Arts and Trade moved in on January 1, 1947 and continued its operation on Los Martires Street to the present time. The academic classes during that time had to be held in the former shop rooms since the academic building was destroyed during the war.
In line with this change, the academic department of the trade school which for years had been under the supervision of the Cebu Provincial High School severed its connection with the appointment of Germiniano Mendoza as the first head of the academic department. The school continued its growth and expansion in its educational program until 1959 when it conferred for the first time a bachelor's degree in the Teacher Education Department. In line with the changes the school gradually increased its teaching staff.

Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering. As technology advances, the subfields of engineering multiply and adapt. Mechatronics' aim is a design process that unifies these subfields. Originally, mechatronics just included the combination of mechanics and electronics, hence the word is a combination of mechanics and electronics; however, as technical systems have become more and more complex the word has been broadened to include more technical areas.
The word "mechatronics" originated in Japanese-English and was created by Tetsuro Mori, an engineer of Yaskawa Electric Corporation. The word "mechatronics" was registered as trademark by the company in Japan with the registration number of "46-32714" in 1971. However, afterward the company released the right of using the word to public, and the word "mechatronics" spread to the rest of the world. Nowadays, the word is translated in each language and the word is considered as an essential term for industry.
French standard NF E 01-010 gives the following definition: “approach aiming at the synergistic integration of mechanics, electronics, control theory, and computer science within product design and manufacturing, in order to improve and/or optimize its functionality".
Many people treat "mechatronics" as a modern buzzword synonymous with "electromechanical engineering".

An emerging variant of this field is biomechatronics, whose purpose is to integrate mechanical parts with a human being, usually in the form of removable gadgets such as an exoskeleton. This is the "real-life" version of cyberware.
Another variant that we can consider is Motion control for Advanced Mechatronics, which presently is recognized as a key technology in mechatronics. The robustness of motion control will be represented as a function of stiffness and a basis for practical realization. Target of motion is parameterized by control stiffness which could be variable according to the task reference. However, the system robustness of motion always requires very high stiffness in the controller. Mechatronics was formed in the engineery environment of automation and robotics, where the 'mechanical' way of solving the design was not adequate to the expectations and opportunities that provide other areas of technology, particularly electronics, optoelectronics, materials engineering, especially computer science.

                                                     Valentines Day

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.
Several martyrdom stories associated with the various Valentines that were connected to February 14 were added to later martyrologies, including a popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius, and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell.

What kind of holiday is Valentine's Day officially?
Popular modern sources claim links to unspecified Greco-Roman February holidays alleged to be devoted to fertility and love to St. Valentine's Day, but prior to Chaucer in the 14th century, there were no links between the Saints named Valentinus and romantic love.

Who is the patron saint of lovers?
Over the years St Valentine has come incorrectly to be associated with finding love, the Church says. He is the patron saint for those who have already found their soulmate. St Raphael is the patron saint for happy encounters and it is to him those fearing the Valentine's post should properly direct their prayers.

Who was Saint Valentine and what did he do?
One account from the 1400s describes Valentine as a temple priest who was beheaded near Rome by the emperor Claudius II for helping Christian couples wed. A different account claims Valentine was the Bishop of Terni, also martyred by Claudius II on the outskirts of Rome.

Is Valentine's Day an official holiday?
Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.

We do know that the ancient Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia, a spring festival, on the 15th of February. With the introduction of Christianity, the holiday moved to the 14th of February--the saint day that celebrated several early Christian martyrs named Valentine.

Do they celebrate Valentine's Day in Brazil?
In Brazil, the Dia dos Namorados is celebrated on June 12, which is Saint Anthony's Day Eve. Saint Anthony is recognized for blessing young couples with happy and prosperous marriages. Celebrations for Dia dos Namorados in Brazil and those for Valentine's Day in most other countries are similar.

To-morrow is Saint Valentine's day, All in the morning betime, And I a maid at your window, To be your Valentine. Then up he rose, and donn'd his clothes, And dupp'd the chamber-door; Let in the maid, that out a maid Never departed more.

                                                             New Year
New Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count increments by one. Many cultures celebrate the event in some manner. The New Year of the Gregorian calendar, today mostly in use, falls on 1 January (New Year's Day), as was the case both in the old Roman calendar (at least after about 713 BCE) and in the Julian calendar that succeeded it. The order of months was January to December in the Old Roman calendar during the reign of King Numa Pompilius in about 700 BCE, according to Plutarch and Macrobius, and has been in continuous use since that time. Many countries, such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the United States, mark 1 January as a national holiday.

New Year's Day is observed on January 1, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar. In pre-Christian Rome under the Julian calendar, the day was dedicated to Janus, god of gateways and beginnings, for whom January is also named. As a date in the Gregorian calendar of Christendom, New Year's Day liturgically marked the Feast of the Naming and Circumcision of Jesus, which is still observed as such in the Anglican Church and Lutheran Church. In present day, with most countries now using the Gregorian calendar as their de facto calendar, New Year's Day is probably the most celebrated public holiday, often observed with fireworks at the stroke of midnight as the new year starts in each time zone. Other global New Years' Day traditions include making New Year's resolutions and calling one's friends and family

 What Do People Do?
Many Filipino people unite on New Year’s Eve, which is on December 31, to celebrate a midnight meal known as the Media Noche. It is also common to stay awake to greet the coming of the New Year. New Year’s Day is also characterized by Filipinos lighting fireworks and making a lot of noise to drive away evil spirits. This belief originated from the Chinese.
The elderly encourage children to jump at the stroke of midnight so that they would grow up tall. Many people display 12 circular fruits and wear clothing with polka dots to symbolize money. It is also popular practice to open all the doors and windows at the stroke of midnight to let in the good luck. Many Filipino families also read the Christian bible and attend a church midnight mass. It is common for many Filipinos to blend religion and superstition in celebrating New Year’s Day.

While Celebrations all over the world their are also traditions:

like Making resolutions to improve one's life ,  gathering of love ones , parades , activities , beliefs , etc.

In the Philippines, celebrations are very loud, believing that the noise will scare away evil beings. There is often a midnight feast featuring twelve different round fruits to symbolize good luck for the twelve months of the year. Other traditional foods include sticky rice and noodles, but not chicken or fish because these animals are food foragers, which can be seen as bad luck for the next year's food supply.

                 Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February.

The New Year festival is centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Traditionally, the festival was a time to honour deities as well as ancestors. Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, including Mainland China, Hong Kong,Macau, Taiwan, Singapore. Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, and the Philippines. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbours.

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4712 begins on Jan. 31, 2014. Chinese months are reckoned by the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day.

Why do people celebrate Chinese New Year?
Chinese New Year is a time for families to be together. Wherever they are, people come home to celebrate the festival with their families. The New Year's Eve dinner is called Reunion Dinner, and is believed to be the most important meal of the year

How Do the Chinese Celebrate the Festival
The main traditional celebrations of the festival include eating reunion dinner with family, giving red envelopes, firecrackers, new clothes, and decorations. More modern celebrations include watching the CCTV Gala, instant message greetings, and cyber money gifts.

Chinese get together and enjoy family time.

Cultural Activities to Welcome the New Year

Decorating Buildings, Houses, and Streets with Lucky Red Items.

Many cultural activities are arranged during the festival. Rural areas and small towns retain more traditional celebrations than the cities, such as setting off firecrackers, ancestor worship, and dragon dances. Setting off fireworks is common during the Spring Festival season all over China.

Chinese New Year is a joyful time for most, but for singles above the normal matrimonial age it is not so. Parents and relatives think they should be settled down. In China, females are said to be marriageable up to 30, and males before 32. Those who don't get married before these ages are thought to be the dregs of society!

        International Eucharistic Congress

IEC is an international gathering of people which aims to promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church and help improve our understanding and celebration of the liturgy and Draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist. In the Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Congress is a gathering of clergy, religious, and laity to bear witness to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, which is an important Roman Catholic doctrine. Congresses bring together people from a wide area, and typically involve large open-air Masses, Eucharistic adoration (Blessed Sacrament), and other devotional ceremonies held over several days. Congresses may both refer to National (varies by country) and International Eucharistic Congresses.

The first International Eucharistic Congress owed its inspiration to Bishop Gaston de Ségur, and was held at Lille, France, on June 21, 1881. The initial idea was merely local, and met with few adherents, but it grew in importance as years passed. The sixth congress met in Paris in 1888, and the great memorial Church of the Sacred Heart on Montmartre was the center of the proceedings. Antwerp hosted the next congress, from in 1890, at which an immense altar of repose was erected in the Place de Meir, and an estimated 150,000 persons gathered around it when Cardinal Goossens, Archbishop of Mechelen, gave the solemn Benediction. Bishop Doutreloux of Liège was then president of the Permanent Committee for the Organization of Eucharistic Congresses, the body which has charge of the details of these meetings. Of special importance also was the eighth congress, held in Jerusalem in 1893, as it was the first congress held outside Europe.

The Eucharist, which according to Papal Legate to the 51st International Eucharistic Congress His Eminence Charles Cardinal Bo is the source and goal of the “mission.”
He said the Church and its people are called on a mission to promote awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in life and mission; to help improve our understanding and celebration of Eucharist liturgy; and to draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist

During the IEC, high-caliber Catholic speakers discuss their most important form of worship: the Eucharist, better known as the Mass.

The Vatican-backed International Eucharistic Congress, hosted by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines with Cebu City as the chosen venue,

The last Eucharistic Congress in the Philippines was in 1937 during the pontificate of Pope Pius XI. It was the first of its kind held in Asia.

The IEC is an occasion for Catholics to reaffirm the Second Vatican Council’s proclamation of the Eucharist as the “source and summit of Christian life,” said Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, chairman of the communications department of the 51st IEC, said in a Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines News post.
